Solution Due to an upgrade on security to our sending mail server, some internet users will have to use SMTP authentication . The steps below will show you where to find the setting.
Note: This is also the case with users that are connected up through another provider using a Visionary e-mail account.
Outlook Express
- Click Tools then Accounts
- Click Mail
- Click Properties
- Click Servers
- In the Account Name field, it should be the first part of your email address (probably it's like this already).
- Put a checkmark by My Server Requires Authentication at the bottom of the page.
- Click Settings
- Select Log on Using
- Type Account Name (which will be your full email address)
- Type Password (which will be your email address password)
- Click Apply
- Click OK
- Click Close
This should fix the problem in Outlook Express. To send email, close Outlook Express and re-open it.
Microsoft Outlook
- Click Tools then Email Accounts (Accounts and Services on older versions of Outlook)
- Click View and Change and Click Next (skip if it opens up to the account screen)
- Click Change or Properties of your Email Account
- Click More Settings
- Click Outgoing Server
- Check My Server Uses Authentication
- Select Log on Using
- Type Account Name (which will be your full email address)
- Type Password (which will be your email address password)
- Click OK
- Click Next
- Click Finish
This should fix the problem in Outlook. Close Outlook and re-open it.
