Howie Filter Introduction

The Howie Filter is an adjustable Spam filter which is highly customizable. If you are receiving spam message in your inbox please adjust the Howie Filter to be more aggressive. To do this visit our web site login and log in using your email address and password. (If you do not remember your e-mail password please call 1-877-288-8389 and our tech support will remind/reset the password.) Once you are logged into the filter please click the Preferences link on the left side. This will get you into the settings for the filter.

  • If you are receiving spam please adjust the Sensitivity Slider Bar to a higher number.
  • If you are missing some e-mails that the Howie Filter caught please lower the Slider.
  • Once changing any settings on this page be sure to scroll to the bottom and click update.

Blacklist

The Howie Filter Black list is a block senders list. Any address added to this list will be blocked and their e-mail will end up in your Howie Filter. To add an entry click on the blacklist button, then click add new entry. You can blacklist addresses, domains, or everyone (that is not in your Whitelist) by using the wildcard character *. You can also blacklist based off of the subject field of e-mail. For example, if you were receiving a lot of e-mail with the word Viagra in the subject, simply add the entry *Viagra* to your subject field Black list. This would cause all e-mails with the word Viagra in the subject field to be filtered.

Whitelist

The Howie Filter Whitelist is an approved senders list. Any address added to this list will be automatically delivered to your email inbox. You can also Whitelist using the wildcard character * and the subject field rules stated above. Be careful with the entries in this field for example if you enter * in your Whitelist it will defeat the purpose of the Spam filter and all e-mail will be delivered to your inbox. But if you were to enter *@vcn.com in your Whitelist it would allow all email from a sender who has an email address ending in @vcn.com.
